Planning, Motivation and Hard Work; The Key to Achieving His Dreams!
– Atif, University of Kansas
Originally from the small town of Aligarh, Atif moved to Delhi with his father in the middle of high school. It was not easy to leave his mother and sister behind, but he knew the quality of education he would receive in Delhi would be significantly better.
From an early age, he understood the value of a robust educational curriculum and the importance of extracurriculars. His interest in the STEM fields brought about participation in several Olympiads and science competitions. His passion for football led him to represent his district at several tournaments.
He came to The Red Pen from the Avanti Fellows Program, an initiative that helps low-income students gain access to high-quality educational opportunities. Atif was extremely positive and energetic when he first interacted with us and it was evident that he was a very ambitious and driven student. He responded well to suggestions about the application process which helped us find the best-fit university for him. Atif worked tirelessly on fine-tuning his application and was admitted to five universities in the US. Atif is the first in his family to apply overseas. He eventually chose to attend the University of Kansas where he was admitted to the Honors program and received a full scholarship. This hard-working student who watched his father work long hours to support him developed the grit needed to succeed and is now all set to study engineering and physics at renowned US research university.
